Grandparents Wong

Grandparents Wong

What began as a conventional family portrait in suburban St. Louis, took an unexpected and interesting turn. After the mothers and fathers, aunts and uncles, cousins, children and grandchildren had finished their work in front of my camera, one last photograph remained—a definitive portrait of the Grandparents Wong. As the matriarch and patriarch took their places in chairs borrowed from the dining room, storm clouds rolled in to darken the Midwestern sky. Smiles disappeared and postures stiffened. And what emerged was a final portrait.
